Hereford Fire Department is in the process of trying to buy a Scott Thermal Imaging Camera.

Why do we need your help? COST! The cost of a thermal imaging camera is very expensive but the need for one definitely out weighs the cost. Thermal Imaging Cameras allow firefighters to more effectively fight fires and reduce secondary damage caused by excess water and demolition needed to gain access to hidden fires. The Thermal Imaging Camera is used to pin point "HOT" areas inside of a structure. Although it is NOT capable of seeing through wall, it is able to see any temperature variations from the ambient air. WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? It means, if a fire is hidden inside of a wall, we no longer have to tear holes all over the walls searching for the fire. We can immediately see where the fire is and extinguish it without all of the secondary damage cause by looking for it.

The Thermal Imaging Camera also allows firefighters to quickly search for victims. In a smoke filled house or building, it is very difficult, if not impossible, to locate victims in a timely manner. The Thermal Imaging Camera can easily "See" through the smoke and help the firefighters locate trapped victims and quickly remove them from harms way.

Being a Volunteer department, we are very limited in the amount of funds we can use to purchase equipment. Throughout the past couple of year we have experienced many maintenance cost associated with the fighting of wildland fire and with the continuing cost of bunker gear for the firefighters. This has caused us, the Hereford Fire Department, to come up short with the funds needed to purchase the higher priced, but very useful tools that paid department are able to have. Although we do have some funds set aside, we still do not have quite enough to purchase the Thermal Imaging Camera.
